Artistic warrior

A strong sense of history – and an appreciation of beauty even in the attire of war–influences this Turkish artist’s rich and vibrant works.

Born in 1971, Turkish artist Ismail Acar had his first solo exhibition at the age of 21 and since then has become one of Turkey’s finest artistic talents. He even has the endorsement of Turkey’s Prime Minister.

As well as exhibiting in his native Turkey, he has also exhibited in Barcelona, Cannes, Chicago, London, Macedonia, Madrid, New York, Paris, Strasbourg and Venice. Now he can add Dubai to is tally of inernational exhibitions with an exhibition at Meem Gallery.

Acar’s work’s demonstrate a strong understanding of history while still being thoroughly contemporary. He explores the differences and commonalities between the East and West and seeks meaning in strong symbols, calligraphy and mythology. In his Dubai exhibition, Acar uses rich, strong colours and images of historical importance, notably the attire of sultans and historical armour to dramatic and passionate effect.
